Mayathee 1 - Mystery of Princess Dharani

Five-year-old Dharani was popular in and around Mahadevpur for a rare skill she learned from none other than Lord Shiva. It was a skill she could use in all her lives and in each life, destiny would bring her to Mahadevpur. This drew attention from many aspiring tantric sorcerers who had been trying to get Lord Shiva’s blessings for their own gains. Among them was Dhureshi, a powerful tantric sorcerer who was feared the most. However, his plans were foiled when Dharani’s grandfather, the Great Mahadev defeated him effortlessly in a tantric duel and banished him. At the age of eighteen Dharani falls in love with a tribal man named Siva. She teaches him the skill that Lord Shiva had taught her. With blessings from both their families, they get married and live in his village called Keerathgaon. One fateful evening, Dharani stumbles into Mahadevpur with a deadly arrow stuck in her heart. Her death and her missing husband creates an unresolvable conflict between the villagers and the tribals. They are unable to find Siva and hence not able solve the mystery of her death. Over the years the conflict deepens between the villagers and the tribals. The only resolution was to wait for Dharani to return in a new life. Fifty years later, people of Mahadevpur and the tribals are excited to see the National Book Award winner, Bhavaani’s photo in the newspaper. She looked exactly like Dharani. Dharani’s brother, Badrinath who is a local political leader manages to get Bhavaani to Mahadevpur. Coincidentally, she is also invited to a place near Mahadevpur by a famous Indian film director, who was filming there. Bhavaani and the director had signed a contract to adapt Bhavaani’s novel into a movie and she had promised to work with his team on the script. At the movie set, she meets India’s most popular film actor, Shankar, who falls in love with her. After learning about Dharani’s life and her mysterious death, Bhavaani finds herself surrounded by mystery and danger. She starts seeing visions of Dharani’s life. She is determined to find her killer and get a closure for Dharani’s family. Siva’s family try to reach out to Dharani to share their side of the story. But Badrinath does not let them. The tribals take Shankar’s help and connect with Bhavaani. Amidst all this angst, rumour spreads that Siva too is back in a new reincarnation. Bhavaani becomes anxious to meet Siva, which worries Shankar and others. Intrigued by her own abilities to see Dharani’s past and feel the love and pain of her dear ones, she struggles to find the balance. As Bhavaani could not reveal Dharani’s killer, both families now become hopeful to meet Siva who could solve this problem. Will Siva come? Or is he already there among them? Did he kill Dharani?
